My Story
If you were to ask David what the driving force behind his art is, he would reply "Love and Passion. My art is a reflection of my deep love of the outdoors, and my passion for the ocean and all the life it gives. I've been a recreational fisherman since I was a little kid, when I used to take my dog and fly rod and go chase tiny little native brook trout behind my house where I grew up in Westchester County, New York. The older I got, the bigger the fish got, and once I was old enough to venture out on my own and explore the surrounding coastline, I was instantly "hooked" for life."
David's love of the ocean comes out through his work in his bold bright colors, dynamic compositions, and unique perspective that one can only visualize after a lifetime a fishing.
As a completely self taught artist, David's work is constantly evolving and ever changing. "I taught myself how to paint in both oils and watercolors, by making mistakes and learning what works and what doesn't work. No one taught me techniques or a certain style, which means my style and techniques are all my own. You can't teach passion, either you have that innate desire to create something from nothing, or you don't. It stirs deep inside your soul, screaming to be released."
"All my work comes from my heart and soul, and the past 25 years of studying the fish I catch in person."
David wasn't born with a paintbrush in his hands. He has only been painting since May 2015, when he discovered his love of traditional media. In three short years his work has gone from flat soulless paintings, to vibrant, beautiful, full of life paintings that seem to jump off the canvas at you. Before he realized his true talent, he was an art director for a successful advertising agency for 14 years, in which his main account was the biggest sports team in the world.
In 2017, he left the advertising world behind and decided to pursue painting full time. In 2018, he attended various juried fine art fairs, The Westport CT Fine Art Fair, the Niantic CT Art Fair, the Mystic CT Art Fair, and the Scituate RI Art Fair. In August 2018, David, his wife, Timea, and their dog, Lily moved to Falmouth, Massachusetts. The Cape offers endless inspiration for David, and he looks forward to pursuing his passion for years to come on Cape Cod.
In 2019 you could find David’s work at The Chilmark Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard.
In 2020 he opened up his own gallery called The Great Water Gallery. Located in Mashpee Commons on Cape Cod. 11 North Street, Mashpee, MA, 02649
In 2023 David closed his gallery in Mashpee Commons while he focuses on obtaining his Captains License from the USCG. In 2024 or 2025 he will open up another gallery here on cape cod!
